Looking for a way to strengthen your connection with your daughter? Cook together!
With the holidays right around the corner, many of us will be spending more time in the kitchen than we normally would. It’s the perfect time to cook with your daughter. Cooking with your child is so much more than just preparing meals—it’s a fun, messy, and deeply rewarding way to bond while teaching her valuable life skills. Sure, it’s not always calm or tidy (flour on the floor and whipped cream on their cheeks!), but the memories and lessons you create together are worth every spill.

    • A Note from Nicole Escudero Christenson

Happy Holidays! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the Middle School Holiday Bazaar. It is a wonderful event that teaches our Daisies entrepreneurship, builds community, and raises money for a good cause. I look forward to the joy and opportunities 2025 will bring to our Hockaday community. I wish you peace and happiness this season and in the New Year!

    • Lost & Found Tables and Items in Commons Areas

Lost & Found tables have been displayed this week so students can retrieve their lost items. We have informed students that all Lost and Found items and any belongings left in the Commons areas over the holidays will be donated to charity. Please encourage your daughters to check the Lost and Found and to bring home all items not stored in their lockers.
    • Middle School Holiday Bazaar

The Holiday Bazaar will take place during the morning of Friday, December 20 in the Small Gym for our Middle School students. For the occasion, students are allowed to wear holiday tops, socks, and accessories with their uniform skirt and shoes. We will be handing out shopping bags as they enter, so there is no need to send anything except money with your child. We ask that students bring no more than $25 in small bills to spend at the Bazaar. The small bills will help the advisories manage change.
Thanks so much to our advisory parents for their efforts in making all the wonderful items we are selling and to our Holiday Bazaar volunteer chair, Jae Sun Kwun, for their leadership. Deidre Thomson and Beth Dies, Student Council sponsors, have worked tirelessly to support our Student Council as they have planned for the event. This is definitely a coordinated effort. This year the Middle School Student Council has chosen to donate proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar to Lovepacs. Lovepacs, a local charity, prepares food packages to go home with children who rely on their school's meal program and therefore are likely to go without during school breaks. The students are excited that this charity gives them an opportunity to help other kids in the Dallas community.

    • December 20 (X-Day)

Friday, December 20, is an “X”-day in our schedule, with dismissal at 12:00 pm for Forms I-III.  (Form IV, see below).  Each year, the Upper School utilizes the day before the Holiday Break to engage in Social Impact work. For Forms I-III, organizations depend on students’ work on this day, so students should attend like on any other school day.  Any parent of a student who will not be here on December 20th should report the absence, with the reason, in advance to USattendance@hockaday.org.  We ask that Forms II and III be here to load onto buses at 8:45 am.  While more details have been provided to students, the general plans for this year are, by Form, as follows:
      • Form I: Students will engage in advisory bonding and various service activities benefiting Children’s Health.
      • Form II: Students will engage in service activities at Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
      • Form III: Students will engage in service activities at local DISD elementary schools.
      • Form IV:  As a supplement to their privileges, Seniors will not be required to come to campus on December 20.  Instead, the Upper School encourages Seniors to use the time to engage in Social Impact work of their choosing, either on their own, in groups, or as a family activity.  Although they are not required to report back on their work, we would of course love to hear about their experience!  The Institute for Social impact will be sharing with Form IV a list of possible activities that students and families might consider.
