Letter from the Board Chair

A LETTER FROM
A. SHONN BROWN
CHAIR, BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Dear Members of the Hockaday Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to share our deep gratitude for your support of Hockaday. Your continued, steadfast dedication to our School allows Hockaday to provide an extraordinary educational experience for each student. Your contributions allow the School to provide Hockaday girls with innovative and exceptional educational opportunities.

As tuition alone does not cover the full cost of a Hockaday education, the Hockaday student experience would not be possible without the generosity and devotion of our community. Your support affords Hockaday with the resources that allow the School to enhance and fortify the Hockaday experience in important ways. Your generosity provides critical support for curricular and co-curricular innovations and ongoing faculty professional development, recruitment, and retention, as well as significant tuition assistance for our families in need of support.

Thanks in no small part to you, our students continue to excel, with 19 National Merit Finalists, 24 National Merit Semifinalists, and 36 National Merit Commended Scholars from the Class of 2024. Fourteen of Hockaday’s 2024 graduates went on to play sports at the collegiate level. In addition, four students from the Class of 2024 are pursuing degrees in the visual and performing arts. In all, the Class of 2024 matriculated to 66 colleges in 24 states and three countries.

Last year, we exceeded our annual fund goal by raising over $2.8 million in support our students. The exceptional support of our community made a marked impact in the lives of Hockaday’s girls. To each of you, we cannot overstate our sincere gratitude for your continued commitment and devotion to Hockaday’s mission.

Additionally, Hockaday’s endowment funds continue to help sustain programmatic priorities, and gifts and pledges totaled $4,546,383 for endowment purposes. The Hockaday Parents’ Association raised a sum of $347,660.46 in support of The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence, and bequests to the School totaled $514,889 from individuals who made provisions for Hockaday in their estate plans.

Our School remains in a position of financial strength thanks to our committed and generous community. We thank you for supporting our mission, and I am pleased to present the 2023-2024 Annual Report of Gifts, highlighting gifts made to Hockaday during the last fiscal year. You are a partner in Hockaday’s future and success, and I hope the Annual Report enhances your confidence in this remarkable institution that has such an indelible impact on the lives of the girls who are educated at Hockaday.

Gratefully,

A. SHONN BROWN
