Hockaday generously supports professional development, which includes:
Conferences and Workshops
Professional conferences and workshops occur throughout the year, including summer, and typically address specific disciplines or grade levels. These conferences and workshops may be online, local, or involve travel.
Study Grants
Study grants fall into three categories: 1) Academic - to help faculty in their efforts to obtain advanced degrees; 2) Curriculum Development; and 3) Professional Growth (i.e., a language immersion experience).
Prentiss Grants
Generous funds are made available through an endowment established by the Prentiss family. This grant, which rotates amongst the three divisions, offers teachers the opportunity to pursue summer travel experiences and education.
Although most professional development work is discipline or grade-level specific, faculty are also encouraged to seek support for broader professional development opportunities which address school-wide priorities, such as
- Building a welcoming, inclusive school community for our diverse population
- Supporting curriculum and teaching strategies that are well designed, innovative, and forward-focused
- Continuing to integrate technology as a tool in education
During an average year, Hockaday faculty are awarded nearly 50 study grants and attend approximately 120 conferences and workshops. Hockaday believes in learning as a life-long pursuit.
