As one of Hockaday's Four Cornerstones, Athletics play an important role in the lives of Hockaday students. Our sports activities, as well as our physical education classes teach us to enjoy the mental, physical, and ethical balance through learning that stems from teamwork, self-sacrifice and perseverance.
Hockaday competes in theSouthwest Preparatory Conference (SPC)in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. In addition, Hockaday students compete in crew and fencing.
Athletics is a rich learning field and mimics many of our societal structures and therefore provides opportunities for young women to be tested with a myriad of challenges; handling failure, working with a diverse group of people, facing personal weakness and strengths, experiencing the importance of teamwork, humility, self-discipline, and focus. It is our goal to not only provide a wide variety of athletic experiences, but to help each girl and each team to have the opportunities to reach a high level of success in terms of progress and winning.
"After getting second place in both SPC and State in 2017, it felt amazing to win both SPC Lacrosse Championship and State Lacrosse Championship in 2018. We had worked so hard for both seasons!" - JoJo Gum (Class of 2019)
