A Message from the HPA President

Dear Hockaday Parents,

I would like to thank Jill Magnuson and Kristi Hall, the 2016-17 Joint Meeting Chairs, for hosting a wonderful and thought provoking group of panelists for a discussion on “Putting the “A” in STEAM.”  Dr. Dhruba Deb, David Hudgins, Ed Long and Dr. Stuart Ravnik, moderated by the masterful Lee Cullum shared their insight on the inextricable and vital link between science, technology and the arts.  Special thanks also to Charlotte Hoskins, Dave Carden and Stephen Hill for help with the slideshow and technology in the Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family Theater.  Following the panel, slates for the 2017-2018 Parents’ Associations Executive Committees were approved.  Thanks to the wonderful parents who will serve the HPA in executive leadership positions next year. Last week the HPA hosted a favorite annual tradition, the Lower School Daisy Breakfast.  Thanks to the creativity and organization of HPA Chair Blaire Hohenshelt, a delightful time was had by all.  From the portraits to the girls’ joyful singing performance to the cuisine (including the girls’ favorite, a hot cocoa bar, and parents’ favorite, breakfast tacos), wonderful memories were made!  I’d like to offer additional thanks to parent photography volunteers and the supportive Sage Dining staff, especially Jamie Orman and Michelle Easter, without whom the event would not have been possible. Thanks to all!

It is hard to believe that the 2017 Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit, “EXPLORE – It Starts Here,” is NEXT MONTH! It is going to be an amazing evening that you will not want to miss! Please keep an eye out for the invitation that should be arriving in your mailbox and inbox in mid-February.  Tickets can also be purchased directly at www.biddingforgood.com/Explore. This is the only HPA All-Community event of the year and we hope you will join the fun on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

In addition, there will be several emails arriving in your inboxes (and in Daisy News) that will provide you with exciting information about the Benefit, including some sneak peaks into several of the Live Auction items, item donation opportunities, fun gift items available to purchase, and a very few Special Occasions spots that are still available.  Details are also available on the Explore page on the website (www.Hockaday.org/Benefit).

There is still time to underwrite (via form; or online at www.biddingforgood.com/Explore).  If your grade has two or more underwriting tables by February 15, the grade will earn free dress or crazy sock day.  Please see email sent by your Grade Reps for more information.  Remember that all of these fun items are an opportunity to support our teachers through the Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence.

Every week I am deeply inspired by the amount of time and the heart our Hockaday parents put forth in support of our students, our parents and our faculty. Thank you all for your continued work and dedication to this fabulous Hockaday community!

With Gratitude,

Katharine Friguletto
2016-17 HPA President
