A Letter from Katharine Friguletto

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your incredible show of support for the Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence at the 2017 EXPLORE Benefit. From the fabulous party to the special performance in honor of Liza to Underwriting, Live Auction, Silent Auction, Raffle, Special Occasions and Baskets, the Benefit was a huge success! This would not have been possible without the creative genius, generous heart and pure grit of Benefit Chair, Kim Bannister, and her wonderful committee. THANK YOU to the parent community who participated so enthusiastically in support of our fabulous teachers and our community! Read More

March brought exams for Upper School and the girls are so grateful to HPA Exam Snack coordinators Larissa Batta and Allyson Lindsley and their committee for providing a delicious and motivating study break spread. I’d also like to thank the wonderful US/MS Teacher Appreciation chairs Kelly Doan, Candace Swango and Kristen Rees who coordinated extra treats for our faculty, who are so busy supporting our students during exam week!

The arts are an integral part of our Hockadaisies’ experience, especially this year with the opening of the exquisite Nasher-Haemisegger Family Center for the Arts. To that end, I’d like to thank Judi Stewart, HPA Performing Arts Liaison, Denise Kimberling Jones, HPA Visual Arts Liaison, and Kathy Gudmundsson, HPA US Musical Chair, for tirelessly supporting our Fine Arts Department with their volunteer needs throughout the year. In addition, Mirjam Kirk and Maria Marwill-Magee, Junior Patrons’ Guild 2017 HPA Co-Chairs, have done a wonderful job supporting the 35th year of the Hockaday, St. Mark’s, and Cistercian JPG program, led by Hockaday Fine Arts Chair, Ed Long. Throughout the year, along with their dedicated volunteers, they chaperoned 170 students to a wide array of events including theatre, opera, dance and the symphony.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to thank our wonderful Vice President, Rajani Kapu, and the HPA Grade Representatives. In our community, the relationships we all have within our grade level are vital. Thank you to each Grade Rep for keeping fellow families informed through effective communication and entertained via fun activities to bring together families and girls alike. We appreciate you!

Yesterday, we came together for the final HPA General Meeting of this 2016-2017 school year. We heard from the 2017 Founder’s Day Award Recipients and our Head of Upper School, Terry Murray. Congratulations to these impressive young ladies and their families, and thank you to Terry for moderating the discussion. In addition, the HPA presidential gavel was officially handed over to President–Elect, Anna McPhail. Anna is an experienced leader in the HPA and will be amazing leading this organization next year. Please join me in supporting Anna and her 2017-18 HPA Board.

As this is my final DaisyNews message, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your support this year. Serving parents, students and the school as HPA President has been an honor and a joy. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know and work with so many of you as we fulfill the HPA mission to support The Hockaday School by fostering an inclusive, informed, and vibrant parent community, and by engaging parents as volunteers to enhance the Hockaday experience for students, faculty, staff, and parents. Your time, talent, passion and perspective make Hockaday a better place!

Finally, I would like to offer my deepest thanks to HPA Liaison Holly Hook and the exceptional Executive Committee, whose enthusiasm, expertise and good cheer has been vital in the success of the HPA this year. Ariana Held, Anna McPhail, Rajani Kapu, Stephanie Anderson, Katie McLeroy, Jenna Woodberry, Shanon Schwimmer, Dawne Tribolet, Kelly Buford, Wendy Oglesby and Kim Bannister, thank you for everything!

Enjoy the last seven weeks of school and a wonderful summer ahead!

With gratitude,

Katharine Friguletto
2016-17 HPA President
