Betty Simmons Regard '55 Awarded Hockaday Medal

In 1977, the Hockaday Alumnae Association instituted the Hockaday Medal Award to honor former students of the School who have shown excellence in their chosen fields of endeavor and have demonstrated their loyalty and support.
The Hockaday Medal Award recipient exemplifies the Hockaday Cornerstones: Character, Courtesy, Scholarship, and Athletics. She serves as a role model to the students and the alumnae of Hockaday and to all women who strive to achieve their goals. This award is the highest honor the Alumnae Association may bestow upon an alumna.

After graduating from Hockaday, Betty Simmons Regard attended Smith College and Southern Methodist University, and she earned a master’s degree from the University of North Texas. She served on Hockaday’s Board of Trustees from 2011 – 2016, and she was admired by her fellow trustees for her keen intellect and acute powers of observation and understanding. Betty is also involved with numerous philanthropic organizations in Dallas. She chaired the Board of Trustees of The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, served on the board of Chiapas International, and she was on the Family Place Foundation Advisory Board and the Advisory Board of CASA, which furthered her passion for providing support to victims of female domestic violence. Betty has been honored by Dallas Women’s Museum with the Maura Women Helping Women Award, and in 2018 she received the Community Service Award for Philanthropy by the Dallas Historical Society.

Betty has two daughters, Dr. Monique M. Regard '80 and Tania Regard Hardage '82, and her granddaughter is Margaret Hardage '13. Betty’s sisters also attended Hockaday, Peggy Simmons Dear '58 and Suzanne Simmons Bartolucci '61.
