Penguin Nesting Sites

Representatives from the Dallas Zoo came to campus last week to check out our First and Fourth Graders’ penguin presentations!
First and Fourth grade students are learning about South African penguins and the problem of nesting site destruction, and worked together to brainstorm nest designs and materials.

First Graders went back to their classrooms to talk, read, and learn more about penguins and their problems, including the nesting sites, over-fishing of their feeding grounds, and water pollution. They created some gorgeous posters with persuasive writing and illustrations to educate and inform. The theme ties into their Social Impact theme of Animals in the Community.

Fourth Graders spent their time in Science class building nest models from their requested materials.
