Biology, Impact, and the Zoo

Biology, Impact, and the Zoo students met interesting animals in a comparative morphology lab where they recorded similarities and differences among species.
They will use this data to create a cladogram showing the possible evolutionary relationships between the species. This gives them an authentic opportunity to apply their newly learned skills in phylogeny and cladistics.

Biology and the Zoo is an Upper School Social Impact Science class, where students collaborate and apply design thinking to solve environmental issues in partnership with experts from the Dallas Zoo.

At the end of the year, they produce a culminating pitch to area industry leaders in a “shark tank” setting that addresses an identified environmental problem and competes for funding.
