MathCounts Competition

The Hockaday MathCounts team competed in the Dallas Chapter MathCounts Competition this past Saturday. The girls competed in a sprint round, target round, and team competition. Our four-person team consisting of Ela Guo (8th), Liya Chen (8th), Lily McKenna (7th), and Defne Gurun (7th) placed third. In addition, two individuals, Lily McKenna and Ela Guo, scored well enough to compete in the countdown round, a fast-paced, game show-like competition that pits two people against each other in a single elimination tournament. Lily McKenna placed second and will be advancing to the state level on March 30.

Other members of the MathCounts team were Jayna Dave (8th), Melody Hu (8th), Anika Kapoor (6th), Nadia Sethuraman (8th), Anisha Sharma (7th), and Kimberly Zhang (7th). I would also like to acknowledge our two alternates, Alex Cox (7th) and Laya Ragunathan (7th) who attended every practice and were ready to step in if needed.
