Summer at Hockaday's longstanding day camp, Kaleidoscope Day Camp, occurs in two-week sessions with a variety of activities to include imaginative play, critical thinking, creative expression, outdoor exploring, cooking, science, splash days, and much more. Each session will center around fun and engaging themes. Each two-week session will differ from previous sessions, so join us for multiple sessions! 

Lunch is included in the tuition for Kaleidoscope Day Camp.

Kindergarten Prep

Is your child ready for kindergarten? Kindergarten Prep is a fun yet purposeful camp offered for children that will be entering kindergarten in the fall. Students will prepare for kindergarten by sharpening their phonological awareness, phonics, basic math skills, and social skills. Participation in multiple sessions is encouraged and campers should only attend either the morning or afternoon program during a single session. This camp is created and led by a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
 
Please note: Sessions are two weeks in length.

Explorations Camps & Classes

Lower School Explorations offers weekly in-person camps for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. Programs offer a variety of activities and enrichment that span a wide range of interests. Classes are offered as half-day options with the opportunity to create a full-day of programming by selecting a morning and an afternoon program. Participants who attend a combination of a morning and afternoon offering within the same week should add lunch to their camp schedule for an additional fee.

Lunch is served to all campers who participate in a full-day schedule of programs, which includes a morning and afternoon program within the same week or a full-day program. Lunch includes hot and cold options, fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt, a fresh salad bar, and dessert on Fridays.
 
Register for multiple weeks to create a summer experience of creative learning and enrichment! 

Explorations takes place in person June 2 through July 18 with morning sessions occuring 9:00 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions occurring 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch takes place from noon to 12:30 p.m.* Before and After Care is available for an additional fee.

  • All the STEM by Drone Together

    This STEM introduction class has it all: building, creating, designing, engineering, coding concepts, basic robotics, and an introduction to drones. This is a very hands-on and active camp. We aim to make a child's first experience with STEM both fun and engaging, so we create a space for the kids to work collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. Our belief is, the more fun they have in this learning environment, the more likely they are to continue pursuing STEM in the future. Opportunities will abound in this space in the future, and no STEM company brings more excitement - so come join us in living our  motto: "Bringing the Future to People...Today."

  • Basketball Fundamentals by Kidokinetics

    Let your child score big with Kidokinetics Basketball Fundamentals! Our program introduces basic skills of the game in a fun and inclusive environment, adapted from USA Basketball concepts and techniques. Coaches focus on ball handling, passing, shooting, footwork, and even introductory game play to build confidence in young athletes. Not only will your child learn fundamental basketball skills, but they will also develop speed, agility, coordination, accuracy, and endurance. It's a fun way for your child to improve physical skills while learning a new sport and building self-confidence.

    Step outside and immerse yourself in the wonders of nature with a guided adventure each day! Learn about the plants that call our land home, tend to the garden, uncover the mysteries of pollinators, and so much more.   • First Bike Ride

    Coach Stewart Ball and his staff of coaches have taught hundreds of children to ride a bike. Let us teach you to ride in this popular, low pressure, enjoyable class. All you need is a bike, helmet, water bottle, and snack. Bikes can be kept on campus throughout the week's class.

  • First Tee Golf by Kidokinetics

    Calling all future golf pros! Get ready to tee off with the First Tee Golf program. Are you looking for a fun and innovative way for your child to learn the basics of golf? Our program, developed by the First Tee Golf Association and backed by top professionals in the industry, is designed specifically for young children. With oversized club faces, color-coded grips, and target-oriented training tools, your child will be on their way to mastering the four basic shots of golf in no time! Not only will your child develop and improve golf skills, our curriculum is designed to instill important life-enhancing values as well. They'll learn about respect, honesty, and perseverance all while having a blast on the green.

    Looking for a fun and exciting way to get your child up and moving? Look no further than Kidokinetics FlagPlay program! With a variety of games utilizing flag belts, children will be running, throwing, catching, and flag-pulling their way to victory while developing important gross and fine motor skills. Our focus on speed, agility, coordination, balance, accuracy, and cardiovascular endurance will keep your child active and engaged in a team-oriented environment.     Kidokinetics Hoops, Scoops, and Shots is the perfect combination of fitness and fun. Our program combines basketball, lacrosse, and tennis to teach your children basic skills while emphasizing the importance of exercise. From passing and shooting to groundstrokes and net play, your child will develop their agility, coordination, speed, balance, and more in a confidence-building environment. With each session, your child will be introduced to new skills like rolls, handstands and cartwheel prep, while having fun with bubbles, music, rhythm streamers, and obstacle courses.     Kidokinetics USA Archery Fundamentals program is designed for elementary children looking to learn the basics of this fantastic Olympic sport! Archery will give your child the opportunity to develop important skills such as focus, concentration, coordination, balance, strength, stability, and accuracy. As an official partner of USA Archery, our camps utilize their nationally recognized curriculum. Lead coaches are certified by USA Archery for safety and quality of curriculum presentation.
