Welcome to Summer at Hockaday 2025!

Lower School in-person camps and classes will take place in weekly, half-day sessions with a few full-day options, as noted in the schedule. Registrations will close at 11:59 p.m. every Thursday for the upcoming week to allow us to make preparations for new groups of participants.

The following Enrollment Contract and will require an electronic signature within the registration process. Please read prior to registering.

Explorations Camps for Grades 3 and 4

Lower School Explorations offers weekly in-person camps for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. Programs offer a variety of activities and enrichment that span a wide range of interests. Classes are offered as half-day options with the opportunity to create a full-day of programming by selecting a morning and an afternoon program. Participants who attend a combination of a morning and afternoon offering within the same week should add lunch to their camp schedule for an additional fee.

Lunch is served to all campers who participate in a full-day schedule of programs, which includes a morning and afternoon program within the same week or a full-day program. Lunch includes hot and cold options, fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt, a fresh salad bar, and dessert on Fridays.
 
Register for multiple weeks to create a summer experience of creative learning and enrichment! 

Explorations takes place in person June 2 through July 18 with morning sessions occuring 9:00 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions occurring 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch takes place from noon to 12:30 p.m.* Before and After Care is available for an additional fee.

*Explorations camps taking place June 2-6 will follow a 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. full-day schedule. Half-day camps will begin on June 9.

  • 3D Printing for Minecraft and Roblox by Lavner Education

    Welcome creators! At 3D Printing Camp for Minecraft and Roblox, take your Minecraft and Roblox creations to the next level and receive 3D prints of your builds. Finally, you will have the chance to see your builds in real life! Your printed items will truly be one of a kind when you design with Minecraft and Roblox platforms and 3D print at camp.

  • 3D Printing with 3D Modeling by Lavner Education

    In 3D Printing Camp, 3D model and print items that show your true passion!  Themes will include: doll accessories, Pokémon characters, spy gadgets, desk pets, and dinosaurs. Lessons will focus on scalability and how designs can be easily uploaded and printed for mass consumption. Discover what it's like to operate, clean, and care for a 3D printer. Using cutting-edge 3D printers, campers will model prototypes, mod existing designs, and print them in 3D!

  • Adventures on Bikes

    A bike camp for your young cyclist who wants to get out and ride with friends for an adventure-filled morning on our beautiful on-campus trail. We will work on mastering essential bike riding skills and participate in fun bike competitions to challenge ourselves! Interspersed with our riding will be breaks to cool off and play indoor games. Campers will need a bicycle and helmet, which can be stored on campus during the camp week.
     
    Please note: Campers must be able to ride a bicycle. If your child is still learning, please register for First Bike Ride.

  • Afternoon Book Club

    This reading class will read selections from the Hockaday Summer Reading List and incorporate a variety of games and activities to enhance the understanding of the text. If you love reading, come join us as we read together, dig for meaning, examine character development, and engage new vocabulary! All are welcome to join us for this enriching reading experience.

  • All-Girls STEAM - Innovators by Lavner Education

    Experience the power of STEAM in an all-girls setting. Each day, we will dive deeply into an aspect of STEAM and at least one famous woman in STEAM! Explore the power of polymers and linked chains of atoms. Learn about the science of Stephanie Kwolek, the inventor of Kevlar and a polymer scientist! See the science come alive by making your own bouncy ball. Follow Grace Hooper's story, the inventor of the COBOL computer language! Dive into the basics of binary and learn basic coding using Scratch. Before you leave, listen to Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls who Code, a passionate advocate for girls in technology. Have you ever driven across the Brooklyn Bridge? You've seen the work of engineer Emily Roebling! Join us in a day of engineering as we get hands-on with a set of bridge design challenges sure to get you thinking! Every time you have used an Apple product, you've seen the work of Susan Kare, a famous graphic designer! Learn about icon design, pixel-based art, and graphic design basics. Next, learn about Cheiko Asakawa, who helped pioneer text-to-speech and other accessibility technology for multimedia. End the day with a bang by 3D printing your icon design on a keychain! By breaking the Enigma code, mathematicians helped decipher German signals during World Word II. Learn about the only woman on the project, Joan Clark. Then, use your new cipher skills to break out from our digital escape room before it's too late!

  • American Girl Kindness Camp

    Travel through time with your favorite American Girl stories! We will explore aspects of American history through this popular series. Come enjoy a week of crafts, acting, reading, hands-on activities, and much more. Not only will we enjoy the traditions of the American Girl series, we will also focus on kindness. What patterns of kindness can we find in the American Girl characters? We will work as a camp to create and complete a service project to spread kindness to others in our community. One camp day will even include a pajama party! Your doll is invited to join you for all the fun!

  • App Development with App Inventor by Lavner Education

    Learn how to plan, design, code, and publish your very own apps! Whether you want to create a game, photo editor, to-do list, or something completely different, App Development Camp is the place to start! The software is user friendly, making this camp an excellent choice for those looking to learn programming or develop awesome apps with little coding experience. 

    App Development with App Inventor is offered in partnership with Lavner Education.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Robotics by Lavner Education

    Artificial intelligence is an exciting new forefront of technology that is changing the way we live. In this camp, you will explore cutting-edge AI topics through engaging and fun hands-on experiences with artificially intelligent robots, machine learning, programs, and code!  Compare and contrast AI models while discussing AI training. Create your own AI superhero and save the world!

  • Basketball Fundamentals by Kidokinetics

    Let your child score big with Kidokinetics Basketball Fundamentals! Our program introduces basic skills of the game in a fun and inclusive environment, adapted from USA Basketball concepts and techniques. Coaches focus on ball handling, passing, shooting, footwork, and even introductory game play to build confidence in young athletes. Not only will your child learn fundamental basketball skills, but they will also develop speed, agility, coordination, accuracy, and endurance. It's a fun way for your child to improve physical skills while learning a new sport and building self-confidence.

  • Brain Games & Critical Thinking

    Learn about one of the largest and most complex organs of our body – the brain. We will learn the anatomy of the brain, how it functions and also understand how the brain can be manipulated using brain-teasing magic puzzles. We will challenge our brains with problem-solving activities and brain teasers. Come join us and sharpen your minds!

    This camp is for recreational players who love chess! Learn everything from openings to endgames, midgame strategies, tactics, positional play, and more to improve your game. Practice your opening, midgame, and endgame, and study classic games! This will prevent you from falling for traps and help you develop a repertoire that leads to positions with which you are comfortable. Come improve your chess game!

  • Chess Tournament Week by Lavner Education

    This tournament is for recreational and rated players! Put your competition skills to the ultimate test in local and team tournaments full of action-packed challenges, team play, and fun. Spend mornings learning and developing skills for tournament competitions, including openings, end games, puzzles, and positional play. Tournaments are primarily held in the afternoons. Come improve your chess game!

  • Coding 101 with Scratch by Lavner Education

    Gain great experience with computer science using Scratch™, a program designed by the MIT Media Lab, to code, create, and share projects. Scratch uses a custom programming language that is easy to understand. By moving and combining blocks of code, you will be able to develop your own super cool animation projects. You can even make your animations interactive by including instructions, designing the character's costumes, adding unique background images and sounds, and programming characters to dance, sing, talk, and more!

    Codking 101 with Scratch is offered in partnership with Lavner Education.

  • Computer Skills 101 by Lavner Education

    Using and becoming comfortable with computers is one of the most valuable skills that a child can learn to develop critical thinking skills that open up endless possibilities. In this camp, you'll get a head start learning to type, using computer programs, and coding with Scratch™!
     
    Campers may attend one week or multiple weeks and move up in curricula each week!

  • Cooking Club

    This fun hands-on class will teach kitchen basics. We'll learn how different kitchen tools work, how to be safe in the kitchen, and how to make simple go-to recipes. Learn how different ingredients work together to achieve the perfect flavor!

  • Creative Writing for Filmmaking & YouTube - Young Writers by Lavner Education

    Interested in becoming a future screenplay writer? Want to make your YouTube videos more engaging? Engage with fellow campers through the storyboarding process to create innovative storylines, add exciting dialogue, develop explosive sound effects, and layout precise camera instructions. During YouTube video scripting, learn how to build channel branding, improve storytelling, and add visual and auditory elements to your script to increase viewer engagement. At the end of the week, leave with your very own YouTube video script!

    Creative Writing for Filmmaking & Youtube - Emerging Writers is offered in partnership with Lavner Education.

  • Creature Features and Garden Adventures by Dallas Arboretum

    Step outside and immerse yourself in the wonders of nature with a guided adventure each day! Whether you are birdwatching, capturing insects in nets, building pill bug traps, or discovering how earthworms help the soil thrive, there is always something new to explore. Learn about the plants that call our land home, tend to the garden, uncover the mysteries of pollinators, and so much more. Every day brings a fresh outdoor discovery, with a nature guide to show you the way. Join us for daily adventures and watch the world around you come to life!

  • Dallas Trinity FC Summer Soccer Day Camp

    Get ready for an action-packed, fun-filled summer at our Soccer Day Camp! This camp is designed by Dallas' newest professional soccer team for young athletes of all skill levels who are eager to learn, grow, and improve their soccer game while making new friends and having a blast on the field. Throughout the camp, participants will receive expert coaching from experienced trainers who are passionate about the sport. The camp focuses on building technical skills, improving fitness, enhancing teamwork, and fostering a love for the game. Players will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending in a variety of drills and games that are both challenging and fun.

  • Dance Camp

    With so many fun dance styles available, how do you pick just one? In Dance Camp, you can pick them all! Each week will include a variety of dance styles. We will also learn the history behind the dance genre explored.  Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Musical Theatre, and more! End-of-camp dance parties have become a favorite activity for all. Even Summer at Hockaday staff joins in!  Register for multiple weeks in one of our most popular and upbeat camps for boys and girls!

  • Digital Art with Framed Piece - Young Artists by Lavner Education

    Join us to learn how to create beautiful pieces of art using a digital platform. Sketch, draw, point, shadow, style, and much more! At camp, you can use your trackpad, mouse, or stylus (optional) to draw a self-portrait, paint a still life, create anime figures, draw a favorite doll, create a new Pokémon character, create a cartoon script with text, paint landscapes, and much more. Learn the art of creating shadowing, textures, and 2D/3D objects, utilizing spacing, color, and much more! Campers will produce a digital art show to share with all campers at the end of each camp week. Additionally, campers will pick their favorite piece from the week to be printed, framed, and mailed to the camper's home. (Please allow approximately 3-6 weeks to receive your framed piece of art in the mail.)

  • Digital Fashion Design by Lavner Education

    In this fun and creative camp, participants will create a custom tote bag and a digital design portfolio! Campers will be exposed to West Coast Vibes, including a relaxed vibe that boasts a casual and effortless look full of fringes, tassels, and bold colors. We'll move to East Coast Vibes, which boasts a level of refinement and bold looks wile not seemingly overstated. Campers will then plan out and design their own projects, creating clothing patterns online that can be printed and use.     This is a camp for energetic kids who love a variety of activity and play! We will ride our bikes on the campus trails, shoot hoops on the basketball court, ride scooters and skateboards, and build modular structure forts. Each day will bring a new adventure and more fun - an EPIC DAY!

    Do YOU want to be in film? If so, this camp is for you! Join us to learn how to create a film project from start to finish. Gain hands-on experience in all the steps of the filmmaking process: (1) write a script, (2) develop characters, (3) rehearse lines, (4) act, (5) film, (6) edit video using cutting-edge video editing software, (7) add special effects and credits, and (8) produce a final version of your work!     Iron Man Challenge Kids is a full-day camp that challenges campers to complete one of three triathlon distances by accumulating swimming, biking, and running miles over the course of the week.     Venture into the world of Minecraft while learning to build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO Spike Prime system. Join us as we learn basic programming skills while traveling through biomes, harvesting resources, and battling the Ender Dragon. Campers will build LEGO based projects incorporating motors, sensors, and lights while also diving into building shelters to keep out Creepers, craft mystical items that only true masters can wield, and perfect our crossbow skills to stop the Wither from taking over!     Welcome to Science Discoveries, a lab-based science camp for our enthusiastic science loving campers! Do you crave fun and exciting science experiments that are mind riveting, challenging, and educational? Do you want to engage in a hands-on experience, acquire lots of knowledge, and be able to WOW your family and friends? Using a holistic approach each week, you will conduct experiments in physics, earth science, paleontology, and chemistry. Prior to each experiment, you will be provided with background knowledge, divided into groups, and given safety and practical instructions.     NASA. SpaceX. Boeing. Space is one of the most cutting-edge industries today and could have a huge impact on the future. Many countries, universities, and private companies are heavily investing in space research, discover, and travel, and now you can, too! Campers will be sent out on specially developed fun and exciting space missions that provide educational opportunities in physics, rocketry, astronomy, and math. Each day, campers will receive new missions and challenges that keep camp exciting and fun while creating their own spaceship, rocket launching with Roblox, and building a rover.

    Looking for a fun way for your child to stay active? SportsPlay by Kidokinetics is for you! Our programs are designed to introduce kids to a variety of sports and activities, helping them build essential skills while having a blast. With options like golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, football, hockey, and more, there's something for every interest. Each day features a warm up, an introduction to a new sport or activity, free play, cool down, and an age-appropriate anatomy and physiology lesson. Not only is SportsPlay a great way for kids to have fun and stay active, it also promotes healthy habits and positive socialization!

  • Spy Strategies & Competitions with Among Us by Lavner Education

    We need you to use your special skills and deductive reasoning to determine who is sus and help us take them down! Hone your spy skills with special lessons that will teach you how to tell when someone is lying, how to go undetected and gain trust, and other important abilities that every spy needs. Spy gadgets will be available to help you become a master spy! Play the popular game Among Us and learn how to solve the case quickly as an expert detective, all while pulling off impressive imposter plays that will shock friends at camp! Learn special strategies, play fun and hilarious settings, and compete in exciting camp tournament! Each day a camper will be selected at random to be the 'imposter' and will have special missions to complete without detection from other campers.     Immerse yourself in the world of spy technology with brand-new, action-packed missions for 2025! Take your technology skills to the next level by participating in exciting spy missions throughout the week. Agents will need to fly virtual drones, create surveillance systems, encrypt messages, and much more! Using forensic science, spy skills, robotics systems, Roblox spy games, and encryption via ciphers, campers will learn about running an investigation using forensic science to complete exciting missions.

Each day, you will work with your team to crack codes, solve puzzles, and decipher clues to break-out from a different STEAM-themed escape room. You will even have the opportunity to design and build your own escape room as you work with your team to develop a theme, design puzzles, and create the necessary props and clues.

  • Summer Musical Theater: Disney's Finding Nemo Kids

    Summer at Hockaday's musical theater is for ALL who have an interest in musical theater - no experience is necessary. Come have a blast with us as we produce Disney's Finding Nemo Kids on stage! Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves. Be amazed at all your child will accomplish in one, fast week, and join us on Friday for our camp finale on stage!

    Kidokinetics USA Archery Fundamentals program is designed for elementary children looking to learn the basics of this fantastic Olympic sport!     At YouTube® Video Production Camp, learn the exciting process of creating a successful vlog/video for YouTube! Identify an audience, create a brand, brainstorm a creative format, produce engaging content, and create at least one YouTube-style video. Sample topics may include Minecraft tutorials, video game walkthroughs, technology unboxing, product reviews, how-to videos, fashion videos, travel vlogs, lifestyle tips, and so much more! By the end of each camp week, campers will have created at least one video, written a description for a YouTube channel, and discovered strategic ways to make YouTube channels a success.

  • All-Skills Volleyball Camp

    Coached by Allison Camp, Varsity Volleyball Head Coach at The Hockaday School.

    Volleyball Camp is designed for the 3rd-8th grade athlete as an introduction to the sport of volleyball. Players will build on individual skills such as serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Players will also strengthen basic offensive and defensive concepts.

    Get ready for an action-packed, fun-filled summer at our Soccer Day Camp! Throughout the camp, participants will receive expert coaching from experienced trainers who are passionate about the sport.     Get ready for an exciting soccer experience this summer at The Hockaday School's Soccer Camp! Our camp is designed to provide players of all skill levels with a dynamic and engaging environment to develop their soccer abilities while having a blast on the field. Camp highlights will include daily focus on specific aspects of the game, scrimmages that are active and friendly, positive reinforcement from Hockaday’s excellent coaching staff, and age-appropriate learning for beginner and experienced players.

    Coached by Hockaday’s own Johanna Sanchez, Coach Joh has been coaching youth soccer since 2007 and has dedicated her career to nurturing young athletes and instilling a passion for the beautiful game. Starting in 2007 with the Houston Dynamo youth and later transitioning to the FC Dallas youth in 2011, she has had the privilege of working with players of all ages, ranging from 2 to 18 years old.
