A Note from Lisa Culbertson

Dear Upper School Families,

I’d like to highlight an upcoming coffee that should be on all our calendars. Meg Hinkley, our self-defense instructor, will speak on Friday, October 18 at 8:30 am in Clements. During the coffee, Meg will discuss how parents can have meaningful conversations with their daughters about sexual assault. We hope you will leave with language and information to open lines of communication for this essential conversation. Meg Hinkley has been empowering students with research proven strategies through her "Fight Like a Girl" program at Hockaday since 2001. Forms I – III students receive introductory strategies and skills training prior to taking the full course their senior year.

Fall Break is around the corner and I hope that everyone has time to relax. This time should be used to disconnect from the pace of school and reconnect with friends and family. I encourage our girls to get off their phones and screens, and instead, spend some time outside and with others, or to pick up a book that has nothing to do with school! I plan on spending a day at the State Fair introducing my son to his first real corny dog and finishing the book I have neglected since school started.

Until next time,
Go Daisies!
Sincerely,
Lisa Culbertson
