Form II Argentina Exchange Program

Dear Form II Families,

I am writing to you with an amazing opportunity to participate in an exchange program with a wonderful school in Argentina, Colegio San Esteban. San Esteban is a Catholic, bilingual, co-ed, K-12 school in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires, and is a highly regarded institution. It is an honor for the two schools to partner as we share a similar ethos and commitment to preparing students for success and fulfillment in all that they do. Further, San Esteban welcomes our exchange students with the same incredible warmth and openness that are hallmarks of The Hockaday School. This is our third year of participation in this program and the student/family experiences have been wonderful. Read more

A key component of the Colegio San Esteban-Hockaday Exchange Program is the family-to-family reciprocal host arrangement. It works like this: in January 2017, Hockaday will receive two students from San Esteban. These girls will stay with the Hockaday host families of the two Hockaday students who intend to participate. These Hockaday students will, in turn, visit San Esteban in June-July 2017. This allows for a deep connection between the San Esteban and Hockaday host sisters, and makes for a more comfortable experience for our students when they venture to Argentina to attend Colegio San Esteban. Put another way, two San Esteban students will come this January and stay with two Hockaday families. Then, in June-July 2017 the Hockaday girls who hosted the San Esteban girls will be hosted by these same girls in Argentina. Those students who participate in this exchange will attend classes for four (4) weeks in one another’s schools. Basic Spanish proficiency is preferred as some San Esteban classes are in Spanish only. However, San Esteban is a bi-lingual school so part of our students’ course load will be taught in English.

This is a one-month exchange with the following dates:
  • San Esteban to Hockaday, January 17 – February 10, 2017
  • Hockaday to San Esteban, tentative dates June 19 – July 14, 2017 (exact dates to be determined)
Cost to families:
  • Round-trip airfare to Buenos Aires
  • Spending money while in Argentina
  • General costs associated with hosting a student (Hockaday families will provide food, transportation, and housing for the Argentinian student, and San Esteban families will reciprocate)
  • Financial aid not available
Application Details:
  • Application Deadline: Thursday, October 13, 2017 8:00am

I am so pleased to offer you this opportunity. Some of the past participants and I spoke to all of Form II this week and there was much excitement. School exchanges are incredibly enriching programs that hold deep value, academically and personally, and pay life-long dividends. If you are interested in participating or have questions, please contact me.

Thank you,
