Learning Support in Upper School
The Learning Support Program is open to any student in Upper School seeking to maximize her learning style and reach her optimal academic potential. All students are welcome to work with the Upper School Learning Specialists to learn new study techniques, strengthen time management skills and organization strategies, develop stronger reading comprehension, plan long-term projects, extend memory skills, prepare for upcoming tests, or for assistance in editing papers.
Specific assistance for all Form I students and those new to Hockaday in other Forms is also provided throughout the year. The Learning Support Team also helps with the coordination and balance of workload for students experiencing an extended illness or a longer-term injury, such as a concussion.
Additionally, if a learning difference is present, complete documentation must be provided with reasonable accommodations determined at the discretion of the School. Classroom accommodations are provided only after the development of a written Educational Accommodation Plan (EAP) provided to the teachers and parents by the Director of Learning Support. Once this plan is in effect, Learning Support can also assist with applying for College Board and ACT testing accommodations. Contact the Head of Upper School or the Director of Learning Support if you have any questions regarding Learning Support or would like further information.
